This part of our project is completed. We are extending our sincere thanks to all those who participated. It was a resounding success!

The Oral History Project was initiated as a partnership project between the Rakoczi Foundation and the Multicultural History Society of Ontario more than two years ago to commemorate the 50 th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution. At that time we quickly realized two main goals: a historic exhibit and a collection of real-life stories.

First, we collected from those Hungarians who came to Canada , directly or from the second generation---- information about their actual life experiences in forms of documents, pictures, transport documents, diaries, interviews, personal collections, including the written word. All material was considered and incorporated into an historical research exhibit that would serve as a permanent Archival resource.

The “Hungarian Exodus—1956” exhibit was completed on time, opened in both Canada (English and French version) and in Hungary (Hungarian and English version). Both continue to travel telling Hungarians and Canadians the “history” of how Canada opened its doors to the 37 565 Hungarians…
